After 4 weeks of staying in a 2 room Marriott Residence Inn, David and I decided to wait out the opening of Bonaire in Key West Florida. We thought a change of scenery would do us some good. The Residence Inn was very clean and quiet, but the room seemed to get smaller every day. It was definitely a step above the Extended Stay hotel, which I will write about when my sense of humor about that debacle returns, but we were very limited in our activities. Walking to and from Target, with the sounds of I-88 in the background is not what I envisioned for my primary retirement activity.
Fortunately I was able to find a great 2 bedroom house in the historic district of Key West which was available until July 31st. We quickly signed the contract, and made flight / car rental arrangements in record time. We set our departure date for June 20th (we would have left sooner, but I had an appointment to finally get my hair cut and I wasn’t going to miss that opportunity). We packed up all of our belongings, returned the non-travel items to our storage unit and set off for O’Hare early Saturday morning.
No worries about lines or seats at O’Hare and we were fortunate to have one of the few empty seats on the plane in our row. Maybe our luck is turning around…
